Very small bit of self-promotion

by admin on April 2, 2008

This weekend in Tulsa, I had two conversations that made me think that I should do a tiny bit of self-promotion on this blog. First, Daniel Naroditsky’s father (whose first name I don’t remember, so I’ll just have to call him Mr. Naroditsky) came up to me and told me how much he enjoyed reading my book. He had visited my blog, and from the blog went to my profile page and my regular website (www.danamackenzie.com), where he read about my books and ordered one of them. The second conversation was with Jerry Hanken, who had not realized that I am actually a professional writer.

In blog circles there is a lot of talk about “monetizing” blogs, i.e., making them pay for themselves. A lot of people do this by sponsoring ads on their sites. However, to me this blog is for fun, and therefore I have not made any effort so far to use it for business purposes.

Nevertheless, Mr. Naroditsky’s comment reminds me that some of you who come here for chess may be interested in other things, too! If you like my writing, and you would like to see what I write about for a living, please do visit my regular Web page. Better yet, order one of my books. (You can find them all at Amazon.com.) If you’re interested in the planets, please order The Big Splat, or How Our Moon Came to Be. If you like math, check out What’s Happening in the Mathematical Sciences. And if for some reason you have a hankering to take Geology 101 again (or for the first time), you can learn all you want from Visualizing Geology, a textbook that I co-authored with two “real” geologists.

Thanks, and I apologize for my brief lapse into crass commercialism!
