Bobby Fischer dies

by admin on January 18, 2008

It’s huge news, but one doesn’t know whether to feel happy or sad. Mostly it’s just spooky, because Carina just finished her stunning portrait of Bobby Fischer this week, and Dribbling mentioned in his comment that he looks like an angel in that picture. I also commented on the amazing white pawn in the corner, how white is usually a symbol of light and understanding, and yet that pawn actually looks menacing in this picture. It creates a sense of amazing power, emanating from the unseen player of the White pieces.

It is now possible to read another meaning into Carina’s picture, which is that Bobby’s opponent in the picture is God. The only opponent he couldn’t beat.

In some respect, Mr. Fischer’s later stages of life corresponded to that of KIng Lear, who also gave away his kingdom due to misguided reasoning.

Perhaps now he is truly at peace with himself and all others.
For him, I do hope it is so.

Bobby is indeed a tragic figure, Rob. I was very much shocked by the news. I now realize that at some subconscious level I had assumed that he was immortal. Rest in peace.
